Yesterday, the weather in Eindhoven was very good. The autumn sunshines shined in crystal clear on the temporary stage of the 918 square in the city center. It happens to be also the tuna festival in the city center. All kinds of bands, almost half of the people in the downtown square were wearing special Uniform, a teams of guitarist with guitars scattered around the perimeter of the 918 Square.
There were guitarists everywhere, Spanish speaking everywhere, and it seemed that the city of Eindhoven has moved to Spain for a while. Surrounded by Spanish atmosphere, the mayor of Eindhoven was delivering a speech in English for the 10th anniversary of Eindhoven English News.
It is almost ten years since I came to the city. In ten years, I realize that the city has undergone a major transformation in 10 years time.
For the major change, many organizations and professional people are benchmarking those properly. Personal I could say what i felt.
A little thing, cooking. In Holland going out eating is kind of expensive. It is not a country with busy street life 24 hours non-stop. Between home cooking and restaurant, the only street food is probably friettent or Chinese takeaway.
This is not so positive news for those from the country where the delicious food can be accessed at every food anxious moment.
But but, but as long as you like cooking and are willing to spend time in it, I find that this place is slowly becoming a cooking paradise where the ingredients and spices for many different cooking are available with good quality and reasonable price.
In Eindhoven, you can cook Chinese, Indian, Southeast Asian, Korean, Italian, French, Greek. Never been to Middle Eastern, African countries, so i donāt know about this part.
Chinese food pays great attention to fresh vegetables. In Eindhoven, going to Chinese stores, Turkish shops, Dutch shops, and occasionally Indian shops, you can eat fresh vegetables almost every day without repeating.
What a diverse! In china , we say there is a kind of happiness called eating two kinds of different fresh vegetables every day.
The Netherlands is close to the sea, and there are bound to be more fish. But if you go to a fish shop or Albeit Heijn, the fish fillets are expensive and not super fresh. In fact, in the big market on Saturday, there are all kinds of fresh fish. The Dutch is not the type which would spend time in the kitchen to clear a complete fish. So good for me, price remains still very reasonable and try to buy a wonderful fish every weekend for our family.
I like to cook all kinds of food, not very complicated but kind of motherās cooking with ordinary food material. Try to avoid a kind of very energy taking everything perfect type of cooking. It has to be like a stream of fun. Any time any leftover in the refrigerator can be used and any moment friends can be invited just to share a nice weather or some happy occupancy in the life.
Every time I travel, I will buy a recipe book in the local bookstore. After I come back home, combined with the food and taste experience I tasted during the tour, I will cook page by page of the book.
T

he travel is over, the taste of culture just starts!
